Description
MOTS-c research peptide
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene. Since its description in 2015 it has become a reference compound for research into mitochondrial-derived peptides and cellular metabolic signalling.

What research has examined
- Metabolic signalling: AMPK activation and glucose handling in cell and rodent models.
- Mitochondrial–nuclear communication: how a mitochondrially encoded peptide influences nuclear gene expression.
- Ageing models: changes in MOTS-c levels and activity in ageing animals.
Research interest does not establish a proven effect in humans.
Regulatory status
This compound is not an approved medicine. It is supplied only as a research chemical for laboratory use.
Storage and handling
Store lyophilised vials cold, dry and away from light. Reconstitute with a suitable sterile diluent under aseptic conditions and keep solutions refrigerated. See our peptide reconstitution guide.
