Description
Melanotan research peptide
Melanotan covers two synthetic analogues of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH): Melanotan I, a linear peptide, and Melanotan II, a cyclic peptide. Both are melanocortin receptor agonists used in pigmentation and receptor research.

What research has examined
- Melanogenesis: MC1R-driven eumelanin production in melanocytes.
- Receptor selectivity: different profiles across MC1R–MC5R.
- Analogue design: how cyclisation (Melanotan II) changes potency and selectivity.
Research interest does not establish a proven effect in humans.
Regulatory status
A licensed implant containing afamelanotide (related to Melanotan I) is approved for one rare condition. Melanotan II is not approved anywhere, and regulators have warned against unlicensed tanning products. The material sold here is a research chemical only.
Storage and handling
Store lyophilised vials cold, dry and away from light. Reconstitute with a suitable sterile diluent under aseptic conditions and keep solutions refrigerated. See our peptide reconstitution guide.
