Description
AICAR research compound
AICAR (5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleoside) is a cell-permeable adenosine analogue. Inside cells it is converted to ZMP, which mimics AMP and activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). It is a standard tool in metabolic research.

What AICAR research has examined
- AMPK activation: the classic pharmacological AMPK activator in cell and animal research.
- Glucose and fatty-acid metabolism: uptake and oxidation in muscle models.
- Exercise physiology: endurance endpoints in rodent studies.
Research interest does not establish a proven effect in humans.
Regulatory status
AICAR is not an approved medicine and is prohibited in sport by WADA. Supplied as a research chemical only.
Storage and handling
Store lyophilised vials cold, dry and away from light. Reconstitute with a suitable sterile diluent under aseptic conditions and keep solutions refrigerated. See our peptide reconstitution guide.
